Nurturing Kindness in exercise

Somatic movement offers a different way of relating to exercise. Rather than focusing on performance, calorie burn or pushing through discomfort, it invites you to tune into the sensations, signals and wisdom of your own body. It encourages curiosity over judgement, helping you notice what you need in the present moment instead of following external expectations. For many people, this can be a powerful shift away from all-or-nothing thinking and towards a more compassionate, sustainable relationship with movement.

When we begin to move with our bodies instead of against them, exercise becomes less about achieving and more about connecting. This can be especially valuable if you've experienced burnout, stress, hormonal changes or have spent years feeling disconnected from your body's natural rhythms. By slowing down, listening inward and responding to what your body is asking for, movement becomes a practice of self-care rather than self-punishment. It is this gentle, body-led approach that sits at the heart of Align Don't Hustle—honouring your energy, respecting your capacity and trusting that your body holds wisdom worth listening to.

I recently connected with Catarina, whose approach to movement immediately resonated with me. She has a wonderful way of bringing strength to busy bodies in the kindest way, encouraging people to move with compassion rather than pressure. Our shared belief is that movement shouldn't be another item on the to-do list or something we force ourselves through. Instead, it can become a way of listening to our bodies, building trust and supporting our wellbeing from the inside out.

Catarina is a certified personal trainer with over eight years of experience. She also works as an Assistant Therapy Practitioner in the NHS, and is the founder of Kind Moves, an online fitness studio created to help people connect with movement in a gentle, empowering way. Her approach is rooted in kindness and guided by science. She has a Master’s in Sports Science, but most of all, her work is about supporting people to build a nurturing and consistent relationship with exercise that truly feels good, not forced.

The purpose of this practice is to give you space to pause and reassess your relationship with exercise. Cat will guide you to step out of the cycle of burnout and instead move toward a kinder, more sustainable rhythm with movement. Her aim is to de-mystify some of the common messages from the fitness industry and offer simple, practical tools that leave you feeling supported and empowered to begin building a consistent, compassionate approach to exercise.

A moment to reflect

As you come to the end of this practice, take a few moments to notice how you feel. Not what you've achieved, but what you've experienced. What did your body enjoy? What felt supportive? What surprised you?

So often we're encouraged to override our body's signals in pursuit of doing more, pushing harder or keeping up. This practice is an invitation to try something different—to listen before you leap, to honour your energy rather than ignore it, and to recognise that your body holds valuable wisdom.

This is what Align Don't Hustle is all about. It's not about doing less; it's about doing what is right for you. It's about moving with intention instead of obligation, choosing compassion over criticism, and creating a way of living that works with your body rather than against it.

I hope this practice reminds you that wellbeing doesn't have to be earned. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause, listen and choose alignment over hustle.
